If you decide to take your own car, take it across on the ferry and then hit the autoroute! (See the Speed Ferries link for extremely inexpensive channel crossings). From the Brittany ports the drive is about 8 hours, slightly more from Calais or Boulogne. From Brittany you will travel via Nantes and Bordeaux, and from Calais/Boulogne via Paris, Orleans and Toulouse.
There are several airports nearby which are served by various of the budget airlines, and flights can be astonishingly inexpensive. The nearest to the house is Pau Pyrenees (Ryanair from Stansted), which is about 80 kilometres away. Other possibilities are Toulouse and Bordeaux (Easyjet, BMI Baby), each just under 2 hours drive, and Bergerac (about 2 hours) which is now served by Ryanair from Liverpool and BMI from Bristol. All the airlines offer discounts on rented cars. Click on one of the links for further info.
When you make your booking, we will send you full travel directions and a map.
